NY - Liberty & Ellis Islands

FerryTook a ferry out to these well-known tourist islands. Did not stop at Liberty Island - it was packed - and disembarked at Ellis Island. The return was very rough and getting off the ferry at the other end was a major challenge. At times the boat rose and dropped again well over a metre (4 feet), caused by the wash of passing boats and other ferries.

Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. as the United States' busiest immigrant inspection station for over 60 years from 1892 until 1954. Ellis Island was opened January 1, 1892.
